DISSECTION
Back when I had an answer to the question what's your favourite genre, it would have been progressive rock. This sometimes pretentious genre also has the easiest sell as a higher artform. It often involves concept albums where all songs are connected by a subject and stylistic theme running through them. Long compositions with contrasting sections of build-ups and crescendos are common so if you have the patience of a goldfish, this is probably not the genre for you.
You're going to hear bands like (from the old school) Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Yes, Genesis, Frank Zappa, Rush, and (from the new school) Porcupine Tree, Pure Reason Revolution and Opeth. This station alternates between these oldschool and newschool progressive songs. Sometime later in the year, a heavier Progressive Hard-Rock sister playlist will be released.
THE ROUNDUP
Next week we're going back to Oldskool hip-hop when rappers sounded like Dr Seuss books :P
